When a warning light comes on in the cockpit — especially the engine warning light (yellow engine symbol) — you should have the fault memory read out promptly. The light can indicate a harmless sensor fault but also serious problems.
Diagnostics also make sense for any unexplained vehicle behaviour: unusual noises, loss of power, increased fuel consumption or a stuttering engine can indicate stored faults.
Before buying a used car, reading out the fault memory is especially valuable. Cleared but recurring faults can indicate hidden defects that go unnoticed on a normal test drive.
