Book MOT (HU/AU)When the MOT is due
New cars must undergo their first MOT after 3 years, then every 2 years. The due date is shown on your inspection sticker on the rear number plate — the month at the 12 o’clock position, the year in the centre.
The MOT must not be overdue. From the very first month past the due date a fine of €15 applies, €25 from 2 months on and from 8 months overdue you even get a point on your driving record plus a €75 fine.
Before the MOT a quick check is recommended: do all lights work? Is the windshield free of cracks? Are the tyres in order? You can fix small defects in advance and avoid failing.
